Our six session format bodywork series restarts on 7 June 2010. We are running two individual bodywork programmes from June through to July.
Regular bodywork is one of the principal elements in creating and maintaining well-being. Each series is designed to be effective in creating fitness and well-being - each is an invitation to engage with the body in a way that elicits the joy of our physicality.
Note: all sessions are two hours long and run from 7pm till 9pm.
Spring 2010
Series 1: Monday nights - Hatha Yoga
Facilitator: Amanda James Dates: June 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, July 5th & 12th
Tune into your natural vitality with a six week hatha yoga bodywork series led by Amanda James. Focusing on vinyasa flow, or ‘breath- synchronised movement’, we will work in a progressive manner week by week building core strength, flexibility and body awareness through a subtle combination of deep stretch, dynamic flow and contemplative stillness.
Series 2: Tuesday nights - Tai Chi/Qi Kung
Facilitator: Sodge Adams Dates: June 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, July 6th & 13th
This six week course will look at sets of exercises designed to stimulate the flow of energy in and around us, enabling us to become more aware of it. We will also work with the energies of ying and yang and experience the interplay between the two, the Chinese law of the five elements; water, wood earth, fire and metal; and how they relate to the practice. There are no quick fixes to life’s problems, but being aware of and able to connect with one’s energy can be a great aide and companion along the way.
Fees
6 sessions in a 6 week period - £90 (deposit £25)
12 sessions in a 6 week period - £150 (deposit £45)
We offer a £10 one-off taster for people who haven’t participated in core curriculum work at Concord.
Amanda James first realized she wanted to be yoga teacher in August 2001 whilst participating in JumpStart, one of Concord’s most powerful transformational programmes.
Eight years later and Amanda has evolved into a mature and intuitive teacher who is highly experienced at guiding students through the fundamental steps of their yoga practice.
Her work combines the methods of her key mentors: an emphasis on precision and alignment drawn from her training with Ruth White; a focus on the breath and energetic flow from her Shadow Yoga training with John Evans; and a rigorous commitment to the connection of mind, body and spirit through her training with Concord Institute
She has integrated these diverse approaches into a bodywork practice that is meticulous yet fluid, deep yet subtle and considers it a great privilege to be one of Concord’s main bodywork facilitators.
Sodge Adams discovered Tai-chi at the age of forty - it was a life changing experience and he has been a regular practitioner since. Tai-chi is a practice strong and supportive in our everyday life, helping to create moderation and harmony as opposed to excess and extremes. Tai-chi and Qi Kung help to slow things down when they are moving to fast or speed things up when they are dragging too slow.
